Before any decision,
a clear picture.
A physician-led hair loss evaluation in Montréal and Toronto. Diagnose what is happening — before deciding what to do about it.
Not all hair loss
is the same.
Most patients who come to Revio are not yet ready to schedule surgery. They are noticing changes, doing research, and looking for an honest assessment. The Hair Loss Evaluation is the entry point — a structured, physician-led diagnosis of what is happening with your hair, and what your options actually are.
Hair loss is not a single condition. There are at least a dozen distinct causes, and the right treatment for each is different — sometimes radically so. What looks like pattern hair loss can be telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, traction alopecia, scarring alopecia, or the visible symptom of a thyroid imbalance, iron deficiency, or autoimmune condition.
Treating the wrong cause is, at best, wasteful. At worst, it allows a treatable condition to progress untreated.
The first job of a physician is to identify what is actually happening — before recommending anything at all.
What an evaluation
includes.
Conducted by Dr. Vézina personally, in a private room — approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Here is what we do together:
- ✓Medical history. Your overall health, medications, family history of hair loss, hormonal status, nutrition, and stressors.
- ✓Hair history. When the change began, how it has progressed, and what — if anything — you have already tried.
- ✓Trichoscopy. Examination of your scalp under high-power magnification, to identify the pattern of loss and any signs of inflammation, miniaturization, or scarring.
- ✓Pull test and density measurement. Standard clinical tests to assess shedding rate and follicle density across multiple zones of the scalp.
- ✓Donor area assessment. If a transplant may be relevant, Dr. Vézina evaluates the capacity and quality of your donor reserve.
- ✓Photographic baseline. Standardized photographs are taken so that any future treatment can be measured against a clear starting point.
- ✓Diagnosis. Dr. Vézina identifies the type of hair loss you are experiencing and explains what is driving it.
- ✓Plan. We outline the options — surgical, medical, biologic, or none — and the honest projection of what each one will and will not achieve.
If laboratory work is needed to confirm or rule out a contributing cause, we arrange it.
What you
leave with.
At the end of your evaluation, you leave Revio with:
- ✓A clear diagnosis of your hair loss type.
- ✓A written summary of the findings.
- ✓Standardized baseline photographs (for your records and ours).
- ✓A treatment plan — including the option of no treatment, when appropriate.
- ✓The cost and timeline of any recommended path.
- ✓The space and time to decide what to do next.
There is no commitment to proceed. The evaluation is its own service, and some patients use it to inform a decision they then take elsewhere. We are comfortable with that.
Who this
is for.
A Hair Loss Evaluation is designed for:
- ✓Patients noticing changes in their hair density, hairline, or scalp visibility.
- ✓Patients who have tried medication or PRP elsewhere with limited results and want a second opinion.
- ✓Patients considering a hair transplant who want a clear-eyed assessment before committing.
- ✓Patients with sudden or unusual shedding patterns that may indicate a treatable medical cause.
- ✓Patients with a family history of hair loss who want to act early.
A private, physician-led assessment
The honest
possibilities.
After your evaluation, the recommendation will be one of the following:
- You are a strong candidate for a hair transplant now.
Your hair loss has stabilized at a level where surgery will deliver a lasting, natural result.
- You should not have a transplant yet.
Your hair loss is still active. Operating now would mean operating on a moving target — and likely needing a second procedure soon after. We recommend a period of medical stabilization first.
- You are a better candidate for non-surgical treatment.
Your hair loss is early enough, or its cause is biologic enough, that PRP and medical therapy will achieve more than surgery would.
- Your hair loss is not what you assumed.
It is reversible, related to an underlying medical issue, or temporary. The right path is to address that — not to operate.
- You do not need treatment at all.
Some patients arrive worried about hair loss that is, in fact, within normal range. The honest answer is reassurance and a baseline for future comparison.
We tell you which one of these applies to you. Even when it is not the one you came hoping to hear.
How this differs from
a “free consultation.”
Many clinics offer a free consultation — typically a 15- to 30-minute appointment, often with a sales consultant or coordinator, where the recommendation is essentially predetermined: book the procedure.
A Revio Hair Loss Evaluation is different in three ways:
- It is a diagnostic appointment, not a sales appointment.
Conducted by your physician, with clinical tests, documentation, and a written report.
- It produces an answer — not an upsell.
Sometimes that answer is “do not proceed.”
- It is a service, not a funnel.
A reasonable fee applies, because it is real medical work — and because we do not want our recommendations shaped by the need to convert.
Frequently asked
questions.
- Do I need to prepare?
Wash your hair as you normally would, and do not apply styling products on the day of the evaluation. Bring a list of medications and any prior hair loss treatments. If you have older photos of your hair, those can be useful.
- Will I get a recommendation on the spot?
Yes. Dr. Vézina will share the diagnosis, the options, and her recommendation during the appointment. You leave with a written summary as well.
- How long does the evaluation take?
Approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
- Is there a fee?
Yes. A reasonable evaluation fee applies, reflecting the time and clinical rigor of a true diagnostic appointment.
- What if my hair loss is medical rather than cosmetic?
We will tell you so directly and, when appropriate, refer you to a colleague — dermatologist, endocrinologist, or other specialist — better suited to manage the underlying cause.
- Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. Many patients bring a partner, family member, or friend. For an out-of-town partner, we can arrange virtual joining.
